how did you learn how to tattoo?

In 2020 I took an online hand poking course by Melina Mansing, a Canadian tattoo artist. Through this course I learned all of the basics of providing a clean and safe tattooing service. After this I mainly practiced on fake skin and myself! In 2021 I upgraded my knowledge with another online course by Ezra Gilberg, a German tattoo artist. In this course I learned a lot of new techniques which have really advanced my skills!

what is your favourite thing to tattoo?

I truly love the creative freedom of Ornamental tattoos! An ornamental tattoo is a decorative piece that consists of a myriad of shapes, dots and lines typically forming a symmetrical design. Many cultures around the world have their own style of ornamental art! As a traveller myself, I find it is a great way to create a beautiful piece of permanent art that is inspired by traditional art and worldly cultures.

can you do machine tattoos?

In 2022 I took an online course with Chloé Besson, an American tattoo artist. In this course I learned about Cheyenne tattoo equipment, proper sanitization processes, practiced linework and shading on fake skin, as well as operating a business as a tattoo artist. Since being pregnant, I have not had the chance to use the machine on human skin! If you are interested in allowing me to practice on you, please reach out for a limited time discounted price for machine tattoos!

pricing

My hourly rate for tattooing is $125/hr. The rate includes the cost of disposable materials used during the session, the high costs of stationary studio equipment, my digital drawing software and upgrades. The rate includes my time spent working on the custom design or flash designs, as well as the physical time spent tattooing during the appointment. The $50 booking deposit is deducted from the total cost of the tattoo.

gift cards

I sell physical gift cards which can be picked up at my studio location in Kensington, or I now offer e-gift cards which can be purchased here.

booking & availability

Booking dates can be found on the private booking link that is received by email after you submit a booking request form. You will also receive an email invoice for the $50 deposit to confirm your booking! I have also been trying to keep an updated calendar available for viewing on Instagram to help you see my availability before requesting.

Touch ups

Why does your tattoo need a touchup? Many factors can lead to needing a touchup, dry skin at the time of the appointment, placement on thin skin, sensitive or swollen skin could have caused loss of pigment. All of these factors plus the gentle nature of handpicking can lead to certain areas being lighter or imperfect. A touchup is free aside from the $50 booking confirmation fee.

location

Island Fern Art is now operating full time out of a new home studio location in the heart of Kensington, PEI. Enjoy the beauty of historical PEI homes during your tattoo or Reiki session in our reclaimed century home. The studio is a fully sanitized and inspected private space that is safe and welcoming for all genders, identities, ethnicities and backgrounds.

Payment Plans

Payment plans are available for tattoos exceeding 2 hours. After the initial 2 hours has been paid at the time of the appointment, the deferred costs will be invoiced regularly via Square. Regular payments of $125 or $250 will be accepted at an agreed upon time frame until all costs of the tattoo session are paid. You will not be able to request a new tattoo project until the invoices are paid in full. Touchup appointments will still be available during the time frame of the invoicing. Failure to pay invoices will result in the inability to rebook with Island Fern Art.
